Celebrate our freedom with health and colours!

Independence! Freedom! Azadi! When we hear these words on 15th of August, our hearts overflow with love and pride for our country and every year, we celebrate this day in all its glory. But, what does freedom truly mean? Freedom can mean that we can make ourselves free from anything and everything if we put our heart and mind to it. When we talk about freedom, we hardly think about food but this article will make you think about it pretty hard. Today, we’re gonna talk about a very hot topic, junk food. Ever wondered how much junk food you eat in a week? It’s hard to figure it out. We can never say no to those delicious samosas, panipuri, fries, burgers, cheesy pizzas and a lot more. Well, nothing can be compared to their charm! But, too much of anything can be harmful so here we are to let you take a break from all the junkies and celebrate a clean, healthy and yummy Independence day! Make yourself free from all those unhealthy foods and choose a better alternative instead. Here’s an all-day menu which will be a step towards making small changes in your everyday diet and opt for a healthier option without compromising on the taste! Cheers to Azadi!

Starters and Snacks toh kafi important hai and without fried, crispy and thoda unhealthy dishes, maza kahan hai? Chips and fries can get a healthier avatar too, like Baked carrot chips, a treat to  the eyes and tummy and for the desi foodies in the house, make these superb Baked Namak Pare. And, we have one more delicacy on the menu which is colourful and yummy, Palak Wadi!

Let’s talk about some main dishes; Main courses can vary depending upon the occasion and people. It has some enticing options so let us split them up into 3 main categories and colour them with our tiranga shades! Time to add colours to your plate with saffron, white and green and try these beautiful and decadent recipes in your kitchen!

Breakfast: Who doesn’t love garma garam puri sabzi in the morning? Waking up to the fragrance of masaledar sabzi and puri makes it all the more irresistible. But today, let’s swap it with some healthy yet tasty breakfast and start our day on a South-Indian note. Go for Idli with some Coconut Chutney and Udupi Style Sambhar. Trust me you won’t regret this choice. You can also have Neer dosa, Appam, Kuzhi Uppu Paniyaram with sambhar and chutney.

Lunch: Lunch is one of the most important meals and it’s quite an affair at a family get-together or a festival. It should be no less than a feast so let’s make sure it’s no less than that today as well. We Indians cannot survive without curries so here we are with some options, Go for a Simple Egg curry, Kabuli Chana Kofta Curry or a Kerala style Jackfruit Curry. Jack fruit is low in calories and high in fibers, whereas egg and chickpeas are a great source of protein and these gravies can be enjoyed with both paranthas and phulkas. (Maybe, some rice too!)

Dinner: Legend has it that we should eat dinner like a beggar. Eating a heavy course of a meal in the night can disturb your digestion, lower your metabolism and also can cause oversleeping. So, let’s keep our dinner affair pretty simple. How about these 4 superb options? Moong Dal Waffle, Palak Paneer Ravioli, Hariyali Pav Bhaji, Moong Dal Pizza, choose your favourite because they will surely make you forget your unhealthy dishes with the taste and the goodness they offer.

What’s a party without Desserts? Desserts are the best to prove that endings are sweet and cherishable! Instead of going for the desserts that are high in calories and filled with sugar, you can opt for Ragi Walnut Laddoo, Baked Karanji, Jackfruit Payasam, and Hara Moong Halwa. Enjoy!

We all love going out and eating street foods or junkies with our buddies. It's healthy to treat and reward your body at times with these, but making them a habit can be quite dangerous. Eating anything in the right proportion will help you to maintain a balanced diet. But, sometimes ditch these restaurants or thele ka khana and invite your friends to your house. Like today, make sure to celebrate this beautiful day and take a break from unhealthy foods!

A very Happy Independence Day!
