‘Tis the season to be jolly!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Santa Claus is coming around! Yes, it’s Christmas finally! And we’re sure that it’s one of the most awaited festivals. This day is one of a kind because it’s celebrated all over the world joyously with beautiful décor, Santa caps, Christmas trees, great food, being some of the common things. But, there’s a lot happening all over the world in the name of Christmas and the holiday season, each one with its own zara hatke riwaaz.

It’s never too late to get enlightened! Get some knowledge and then get to cooking because we have got some great recipes too.



Christmas is not just a festival in India, it’s an emotion and we all know it! Like all other festivals, everybody loves this day too, whole heartedly. Right from getting a giant Christmas tree in their house, visiting churches to offer prayers and hiding presents for kids in their socks, we Indians do it all. And with all other traditions, prepping kulkuls is a must on Christmas too. These Goan sweet treats are bite-sized sweet shells, glazed with sugar syrup, totally a crowd pleaser!




One of the most amazing and different traditions in Germany are the star singers. Children dress up like wise men and go from house to house singing Christmas songs, collecting charity. They draw a symbol (which carries a holy significance) on the door which is meant to wash away the bad luck and guess what that sign vanishes itself by the 6th of January! Germans love their share of gingerbread cookies, hearts and mulled wine on Christmas. Do you want to make some too?




While we curl up on bed sipping hot chocolate during December, Australians have them surfing on beaches, playing cricket or camping because it’s summer time in December. They love their share of fresh seafood like prawn and lobsters, and their tradition is to have a big prawn lunch with some English dessert accompaniments. Here are some Indian prawn recipes, if you crave some seafood already!



New Zealand

Just like Australia, New Zealand has got its share of summer vibes too! They too spend their gala time on beaches, cooking up some great food. Typical Christmas meals include roast lamb, sometimes cooked in a 'hangi' - an underground pit or earth oven. But, a perfect Christmas is incomplete without some barbequing in NZ. Their way to end the day would be a dessert called Pavlova, creamy, fruity and yummy!



Mexico’s Christmas is all about fun and games! Kids of all ages would gather together and celebrate Christmas by breaking pinatas. They are blindfolded and given a stick to break the star-shaped hanging pots. A piñata is like a khazana so when it is smashed open, nuts, fruit and candy spill out in abundance for everybody to enjoy! One of the most popular dishes to start their day is this Posole – a hearty, healthy and flavourful soup.
