January, is the month when you see people from all walks of life, young and old running and preparing for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.
Many of us have a motive to participate in this annual event and that is to support some cause or charitable organization that we believe in. I have been running for the Forum For Autism for the past many years and doing my bit in raising funds that helps the forum in creating awareness about this disorder among general public and the welfare of the children affected by Autism. It gives me great personal satisfaction that I can make a difference to the lives of the underprivileged.
Forum For Autism was clearly setup as a parent's support group formed and run by the parents. It was founded by parents of affected individuals who decided to face the challenge of defeating the disorder in all possible ways. The Forum believes that early intervention has a very positive effect in rehabilitation.
A wish I had nurtured ever since I started earning – and that was to do something for people who were less fortunate. When the Mumbai Marathon was announced I thought this was a very good opportunity where I could contribute my bit towards the society.
I was introduced to the Forum For Autism by a dear friend of mine who has an autistic child. He is a member of this Forum and he told me how much of mental support he and his wife had got from the other members. This touched a chord in my heart.
Over the years, I am glad to say, that I have managed to raise funds of 15-20 lacs. This year we definitely are looking forward to further this sum by quite a substantial amount. I hope our contribution every year will go a long way in making a difference in the lives of the autistic children.
