The students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) have reason to cheer. There platter would be full of finest cuisine. Soon they would savour cuisine designed by Grand Master Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor. Brand Sanjeev Kapoor tying up with the HRD ministry to structure and design a special menu exclusively for the students of all the 598 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) across the country, is the apt thing to do. Since its inception in 1986, the JNV residential schools have been catering to the extremely meritorious children of rural India, regardless of their socio-economic background
Union HRD Ministry has decided to take services of Sanjeev Kapoor to prepare menu of food to be served at all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. He will also train the cooks of these residential schools to make delicious delicacies. Smriti Irani Union HRD Minister announced this in Ahmedabad recently.
Navodaya schools are run by the Ministry of HRD and the decision has been taken with an aim to provide best facilities to the students of Navodaya schools keeping their health as paramount importance.
Union HRD Minister during the foundation stone laying ceremony of a JNV at Hathijan village near Ahmedabad said “The ministry has decided to rope in celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor to prepare the menu of the food served in JNV. These schools are meant to admit bright students from humble family background in these boarding schools. We will provide facilities parallel to private boarding schools and roped in Sanjeev Kapoor.
Minister added “Kapoor will also provide training to all the cooks of these boarding schools apart from preparing the menu. Our aim is to make students feel that they are studying in a school which is no less than a private boarding school’.
Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor exclusively speaking to Mumbai Messenger from Tel Aviv-Israel said “This is a great opportunity for me to design menu for government run JNV. Now they will feel that they are not deprived of exclusive food. Where do we as adults invest in for a better future? The answer is, in our children and I truly believe in that. It is absolutely essential for us adults to do our bit by providing them with a good nourished life. I am excited and looking forward to this project”.
Kapoor adds “Proper nutritious food is definitely an important factor to bring out the best in the students. After much of discussion with the HRD Union Minister Smriti Irani, my team and I finally have begun the R&D on this project. The menus will be customised keeping in mind the availability of local ingredients in the specific region, bringing in the concept of farm- to-table. Not to forget, it’s going to be a combination of wholesome yet delicious food! I feel humbled and honoured to be able to contribute in such a project. This is quite a dream one for me!”
It may be noted that before entering in television channel Chef Sanjeev Kapoor was working with Ashoka Hotel New Delhi and Centaur Hotel Juhu Beach in Mumbai as Executive Chef. Prior to coming to Mumbai he served as Head Chef to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at his official residence in Delhi and never looked back thereafter.
