Ingredients list for Aloo Gosht

  • 1 kilogram Mutton cut into bite sized pieces
  • 2 Potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 3-4 Onions sliced
  • 1 inch stick Cinnamon
  • 4-5 Black cardamoms
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 4-5 Green chillies slit
  • 3/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 4 tablespoons Mustard oil
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger paste
  • 4-5 Tomatoes,pureed
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Coriander powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Garam masala powder

  1. Place onions, mutton, cinnamon, black cardamoms, bay leaves, green chillies, ½ tsp turmeric powder, salt and 1 cup water in a pressure cooker.
  2. Cover and cook under pressure for 25-30 minutes or till 7-8 whistles.
  3. Heat mustard oil in anon-stick kadai, add garlic paste, ginger paste and tomato puree and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp garam masala powder and sauté till oil separates.
  5. Add potatoes and mix. Transfer mutton from pressure cooker into the kadai and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add water as required and cook till the potatoes are done.
  6. Adjust salt, add remaining garam masala powder and mix. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
