Ingredients list for Bread Pakoda-SK Khazana

  • 8 White bread slices
  • 1 cup Potatoes boiled, peeled and grated
  • 1 1/2 cups Gram flour (besan)
  • 1 1/2 tabl to deep fry Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 6-8 Curry leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 tablespoon Green chilli paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder

Method

  1. Heat 1½ tablespoons oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and sauté till the seeds splutter.
  2. Add curry leaves, asafoetida and green chilli paste, mix well and sauté for a minute. Add ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder and mix.
  3. Add potatoes and mix well. Add salt, mix and cook for a minute. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  4. Take gram flour, remaining turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt in a bowl, add sufficient water and whisk well to make a batter of coating consistency.
  5. Spread a generous portion of potato mixture on 4 bread slices and cover with remaining bread slices.
  6. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  7. Cut sandwiches into triangles, dip in the batter and deep-fry in hot oil till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.
  8. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
