Ingredients list for Desi Onion Rings - SK Khazana

  • 4 Large onions
  • 1 cup Gram flour
  • 2 tablespoons Rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chaat masala
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 pinches Baking soda
  • to deep fry Oil
  • for coating Refined flour
  • to serve Vada pav chutney

Method

  1. Peel onions and cut into thick rings, separate the layers, and keep the rings in iced water.
  2. Take gram flour in a bowl, add rice flour, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, turmeric, chaat masala powder, salt, baking soda and sufficient water and whisk well to make a thick and smooth batter.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  4. Dry soaked onion rings on an absorbent paper.
  5. Spread refined flour on a plate, coat onion rings with it and keep on a plate. Dip the onion rings in the gram flour batter, slide into hot oil and deep-fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  6. Arrange them in a serving basket and serve hot with dry vada pav chutney.
