Ingredients list for Goan Mackerel Curry

  • 3 Mackerel fish, cut into halves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 4-5 Black peppercorns
  • 3-4 Cloves
  • 3-4 Dried red chillies
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 5-6 Garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 6-7 Curry leaves
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • a pinch Sugar

Method

  1. Take fish in a bowl. Add turmeric powder and salt, mix well and set aside.
  2. Grind together vinegar, cinnamon, cumin seeds, peppercorns, cloves, red chillies, ginger and garlic along with some water into a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add curry leaves and onion, mix and sauté till onion turns golden.
  4. Add the prepared paste, mix and sauté till fragrant. Add 1 cup water, mix and bring to boil.
  5. Add fish, mix lightly and cook on low heat for 5 minutes. Add sugar, mix and cook for a minute.
  6. Serve hot.
