  • Purple yam (kand) peeled and cut into small cubes
    250 grams
  • Punjabi urad dal wadiyaan deep fried and soaked in water
  • Oil
    2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds
    1/2 teaspoons
  • Asafoetida
    1/4 teaspoon
  • Green chillies cut lengthwise
  • Ginger finely chopped
    1 inch
  • Coriander powder
    1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder
    1/4 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder
    1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder
    1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt
    to taste
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
    2 tablespoons


Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and asafoetida and sauté till fragrant. Add green chillies and ginger and sauté for a minute.

Step 2

Add purple yam and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and mix well and sauté for a minute.

Step 3

Break the wadis and add to the pan. Add lemon juice and coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 4

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
