Basic cleaning tips for your kitchen

All is well till you are cooking up those exotic and exciting dishes in the kitchen…but the moment they are over, there comes the worst nightmare of cleaning! It can be a very tedious job, but is necessary at the same time. So, follow some of the basic and easy cleaning techniques for a better, non-messy and good-looking kitchen.

Stove Burner
Gently pulling the stove burners out of the stove top and washing it with warm, soapy water is the best way you can clean one. Remember to use gentle detergents to wash and not submersing them or allowing the electrical connections to get wet. In case of burnt food particles stuck to them, use baking soda to clean. Wiping burners thoroughly during the regular kitchen cleaning rituals helps in preventing buildup of the burnt food.

Oven Window
Cleaning oven windows can be done by simply pulling the oven doors off its hinge posts. Consult the owner’s manual that comes with the oven to see if the oven door is screwed to the hinge posts, or it can be simply pulled off. In case of screws, unscrew them and lift the door.

After all this, follow the tips below:

  • Lay the oven door on newspapers or an old towel.
  • Look for the screws around the door's perimeter and remove them.
  • Clean the glass panels with dish liquid and very warm water. Use a nonabrasive cleaner incase of spots that are tough to remove.
  • When the glass is clean and dry, reassemble the door. Make sure all parts are placed back into their original positions.

Coffee Maker
Drip type coffee makers should be regularly cleaned. Do check the owner’s manual for instructions specific to your unit before starting the cleaning procedure. When cleaning, run a heated solution of half white vinegar and half water through the coffee maker. Use it one or more times, depending upon the dirt buildup. Make sure to rinse thoroughly all parts of the unit and run plain cold water to remove all traces. The glass pot, filter container and other removable parts can be cleaned alongwith the washing of dishes.

Removing wax from Kitchen Pots
This can be done by either heating or freezing the wax. By heating, you will be able to use paper towels to absorb majority of it and when freezing, you will be able to chip out most of it with a plastic spatula. Repeat the procedure number of times to get the results. Also, washing in hot water with detergents eliminates the residues.

For Clogged Drains
Clogged drains can be pretty messy and irritating. Get rid of them with these homemade remedies:

  • All the water from the sink has to be removed by dipping it out of the sink with a cup and putting it in a bucket.
  • Add one cup of baking soda down the drain. Then, add one cup of table salt.
  • Pour half cup of white vinegar down the drain and leave it for ten minutes.
  • Flush it with two quarters of boiling water.
