Fast food just got faster!

Pizza vending machines in India

New Update
Fast food just got faster

Getting pizza delivered to your doorstep in less than 30 minutes, just isn’t good enough anymore, but you know you have got to appreciate technology when you get to download pizza! Buzz has it that “A machine that builds you an entire pizza to your customization in about 5 minutes, to be installed at major railway stations in Mumbai.” Yes, fast food in Mumbai just got faster!

While this concept has been successfully launched in several countries abroad, it is something India is going to see for the very first time. A pizza vending machine works like any other vending machine. Imagine an ATM, only instead of crisp green currency notes you get a crisp thin crust pizza.

Once you buy a token, insert it into the machine and select choice of crust and toppings, the machine starts building your pizza. Then you can sit back and watch through the transparent body of the pizza machine how your pizza gets made - from scratch! Right from kneading the dough to placing the toppings and to the point where it is getting baked - you can watch as the cheese melts and the crust crisps up! All this happens in less than 5 minutes! There couldn’t be a better place than railway stations (where people always seem to be in a hurry) to dispense good quality food at lightning speed.

The machine that occupies just about 35-40 square feet of space is completely automated and hygienic, but offers just a couple of varieties of pizzas and toppings. Hopefully as the idea picks up in Mumbai, and I have a feeling it will, we might get to see more options!

My experience with a pizza vending machine in Italy has been quite a positive one, so I am looking forward to trying it out in aamchi Mumbai as too. If we manage to appropriate the cost and standardize the taste to adjust to the Indian palate – there should be no reason that this doesn’t work - pizza has attained global domination after all!

Would you like to grab a pizza out of a vending machine or does it need to be wood fire, exotic and handmade to make the cut?
