Rice is the staple food of India. Talk about the delish rice fare – biryanis, pulao, dahi-chawal, khichdi, tehri, etc. However, did you know that not just rice, but it’s water too is beneficial in ways more than just one? In a usual scenario, the water in which the rice is boiled is discarded without a second thought. But hold on from the next time, as this water too is a magical ingredient in itself. I’m sure that once you discover its features you won’t ever throw it away in the near future. 


Also, this is not just a recent discovery. Our ancestors have been using it as an aid to better health, glowing skin and luscious, silky hair. Read on to know more about the advantages of the humble yet powerful rice water.

The presence of carbohydrates in rice aids in boosting energy levels. The best part is that the body can digest it effortlessly and thereby converts it into energy quickly. So, ditch the chemical-based beverages that promise to keep you going through the day and switch to this natural ingredient. Whenever you feel low on energy, just grab a glass to feel refreshed and active. Just don’t throw away the water that you strain after boiling the rice. Pour it in a glass and sip on. 


Prevents several ailments

This wonderful water not just boosts the energy levels, but also helps in improvising digestion, relieving from constipation and fights various other ailments. It comprises of minerals which balance the body’s electrolyte levels and carbohydrates that does the needful job of energising. All you need to do is take the rice water in a bottle (if you have a spray bottle then you can use it too), along with some rose water and glycerine. Shake the bottle well, add any skin friendly essential oil to it – lavender oil, rose oil, tea tree oil, etc. Spray this every day on the skin and see the difference. You will be glad to know that it treats sunburn too, effectively.

Fill the rice water in any feasible container, dab a cotton ball in it and apply on the affected areas. You must be way too busy deciding onto the baby food varieties available in the market, which are not easy on the pocket too. Not anymore! Here is an easy way to give your baby the best and natural nourishment in a cost-effective manner. Boil 2 tablespoons rice in 1 cup water till soft. Once done, strain the water and feed this to your baby. It is easily digestible, gives instant energy and prevents constipation too.


Acts as a natural hair tonic

We spend so much on expensive products when it comes to hair care. But what if I tell you that you can still have strong, silky and shiny hair with an easy, inexpensive available ingredient. Simply collect the boiled rice water and let it cool down. Massage your hair with this water and let it stay for at least 20 minutes. Wash it off with plain water. Makes hair smoother, shinier, stronger, long and lustrous! 


Makes cotton clothes crisper 

This is a remedy that has been practised since ages – cotton clothes given a crisp texture using rice water. You will just need to dip the washed clothes in this water and let them dry. It is the easiest, most inexpensive and effective way to treat your cotton clothes.
