Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Amla ka Sherbet Recipe

  • Indian gooseberry (amla) boiled and chopped 2 cups

  • Sugar 1 1/2 cups

  • Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste

  • Cumin powder 1 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Put amla in blender jar with 1½ cups water in which amla was boiled and blend into a smooth puree.

Step 2

Heat 1 cup water in a deep non stick pan. Add amla puree and stir. Add sugar and mix. Cook till it comes to a boil.

Step 3

Mix rock salt and cumin powder in a bowl. Add 2-3 tsps water and mix. Add this to the pan and mix. Cook for 10 minutes, removing scum in between.

Step 4

Pour into sterilized bottles and store.
