By Sanjeev Kapoor 02 Sep 2016 in Recipes Course New Update Main Ingredients Hilsa (ilish), Salt Cuisine Bengali Course Main Course Seafood Prep Time 6-10 minutes Cook time 16-20 minutes Serve 4 Taste Spicy Level of Cooking Easy Others Non Veg Ingredients list for Bhapa Ilish 2-3 Hilsa (ilish) fish, cut into darnes to taste Salt 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder Juice of ½ lemon 2 Green chillies 1 inch Ginger 2 tablespoons Black mustard seeds (radhuni) 2 tablespoons Yellow mustard seeds 1 tablespoon Mustard oil as required Banana leaf Method Take fish darnes in a bowl. Add salt, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder and lemon juice and rub well. Set aside. To prepare paste, grind together green chillies, ginger, black mustard, yellow mustard, remaining turmeric powder and salt alongwith some water to make a smooth paste. Put some prepared paste over the fish mixture and mix well. Add mustard oil and mix again. Heat some water in a non-stick pan. Place a glass steamer in it and heat. Take a banana leaf, place each prepared fish darnein it and wrap it. Place them in the steamer and steam for 10 minutes. Serve hot.
