Blooming Onions An appetizer made by cutting a whole onion into a flower shape, coating it in a seasoned batter, and deep-frying it to a crispy golden brown, resulting in a crunchy, savory, and addictive treat. By Sanjeev Kapoor 18 Mar 2021 in Recipes Course New Update Main Ingredients Medium onions, Refined flour Cuisine Fusion Course Snacks and Starters Prep Time 26-30 minutes Cook time 16-20 minutes Serve 4 Taste Tangy Level of Cooking Moderate Others Non Veg Ingredients 4-8 medium onions 2 cups refined flour (maida) Salt to taste ½ teaspoon dried thyme ½ teaspoon onion powder ½ teaspoon dried oregano ½ teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 tablespoon paprika Black pepper powder to taste 1 cup milk 2 eggs 2 tablespoons malt vinegar Oil for deep-frying Method Mix together flour, salt, cayenne, paprika, thyme, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper powder in a bowl. Whisk together milk, eggs, vinegar, pepper powder and salt in another bowl. Make 8 slits on the onions without cutting through. Separate the layers to create flowers. Dust the onion flowers with the flour mixture and dip in the milk mixture. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Deep-fry the onions till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
