Braided Pesto Bread

This braided bread looks lovely and is just as tasty with the flavours of pesto sauce and mozzarella cheese. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients list for Braided Pesto Bread

  • 1 cup Refined flour (maida)
  • ½ cup Pesto sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh yeast
  • ½ cup Lukewarm milk
  • ½ teaspoon Castor sugar (caster sugar)
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 100 grams Mozzarella cheese grated

Method

  1. Mix together yeast, milk and castor sugar in a mixing bowl. Set aside for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Sift together flour and salt into the yeast mixture. Add oil and knead into a soft dough with enough water. Cover and set aside till it rises and doubles in volume.
  3. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  4. Place the proved dough on the worktop and knock back to release the excess air. Roll out into a rectangle.
  5. Spread pesto on top, leaving a thin border along the edges. Sprinkle cheese on top. Roll lengthwise and cut into half lengthwise. Turn both with the cut side up and start braiding.
  6. Place the braided bread on a baking tray. Put the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 30minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
  7. Serve.
