Ingredients list for Brown Bread - SK Khazana

  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups Refined flour
  • 2 tablespoons Milk powder
  • 2 teaspoons Castor sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Activated yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Softened butter
  • as required Milk wash
  • as required Melted butter

Method

  1. Sieve whole wheat flour, refined flour and milk powder into a bowl. Add castor sugar and salt and mix well. Make a well in the centre, add yeast and mix. Add sufficient water and knead into soft dough.
  2. Dust plain flour on the worktop, keep the dough on it and knead stretching it a little. Apply softened butter and continue to knead. Keep the dough in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth and set aside for 20-25 minutes to prove.
  3. Dust flour on the worktop, keep the dough on it and knock back the dough. Roll the dough into a disc of medium thickness. Fold from one end to the other to make a log.
  4. Place the log in a greased and dusted bread tin and cover with a damp muslin cloth. Keep aside to prove for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven at 180º C.
  6. Brush milk on top, keep the tin in the preheated oven bake it for 15-20 minutes. Take it out of the oven and brush melted butter on top.
  7. Let it cool down to room temperature. Slice and serve.
