Yes, though other meats being more common, biryani eaters all over the world can easily swear by mutton. And not just biryanis, curries, bakes and all other preparations with this wonderful meat are always special. Did you know, unlike other dishes, a day-old mutton prep will always be all the more tastier on the palate! Try it the next time you plan on to take on this meat.

Ingredients for Cajun Spiced Mutton Piccata Recipe

  • Boneless mutton cut into 1½ -2 inch pieces 500 grams

  • Rosemary sprigs 1-2

  • Cajun spice 2 tablespoons

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 2-3 tablespoons

  • Carrot peeled and chopped 1 medium

  • Celery chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Onion chopped 1 medium

Method

Step 1

Line a worktop with a cling film. Place each mutton piece on top, cover with the film and flatten them using a steel hammer. Place them in a bowl.

Step 2

Add Cajun spice, crushed peppercorns, salt and 1-2 tablespoons oil to flattened mutton pieces and mix. Add torn rosemary sprigs and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3

Preheat oven to 180° C.

Step 4

Heat remaining oil in a non-stick pan. Place marinated mutton pieces and cook, turning sides, till light golden but half cooked on both sides. Transfer onto a plate.

Step 5

Spread carrots, celery and onion on a baking tray and mix well. Sprinkle some salt and crushed peppercorns on top and place half cooked mutton pieces.

Step 6

Place the baking tray in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Step 7

Serve hot.
