Kulith

Ingredients 

  • 1 1/2 cups horse gram (kulith), soaked and boiled with salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons chana masala
  • 2 cups horse gram stock
  • Salt to taste
  • Ginger strips for garnishing

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add asafoetida and onion and sauté on high heat till onion turns light brown.
  2. Add tomato puree, mix well and cook for 2 minutes. Add red chilli powder and chana masala and mix well.
  3. Add horse gram stock and mix well. Add horse gram and mix. Add salt, mix well and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Mash a little with a hand blender, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot garnished with ginger strips.
