How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Puttu Recipe

  • Rice Flour 1½ cup

  • Coconut 1 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for brushi

Method

Step 1

Put rice flour in a bowl, add salt and scraped coconut and 2 tbsps water and mix well.

Step 2

Heat 1 cup water in the bottom container of puttu steamer.

Step 3

Brush the cylindrical mould with oil, fill it with the rice flour mixture. Spread it evenly. Cover its lid. Place in the steamer and steam for 12-15 minutes. Remove the puttu mould, push the puttu through the cylinder with a wooden stick onto a serving plate and serve hot.
