With the recognition of being an important commercial pulse of the world, soya beans are coming into many kitchens around the world. Soya beans are said to control blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, regulate the bowels and relieve constipation. Besides the popular tofu or beancurd, the beans are also fermented and used to make flavouring pastes and condiments, notably the Japanese soy sauce or shoyu and miso and the Indonesian tempeh.

Ingredients for Soya Flour Baked Chakli Recipe

  • Soya flour 1 cup

  • Split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) flour 1/2 cup

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin powder roasted 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 150º C. Place a silicon sheet on a baking tray.

Step 2

Mix soya flour, black gram flour, red chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and butter in a bowl. Add sufficient water and knead into a soft dough.

Step 3

Put sufficient dough into a chakli press and press out chaklis from it onto the silicon sheet. Repeat this till all the dough is used up.

Step 4

Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for twenty minutes.

Step 5

Remove from heat, cool and serve.
