Thecha Prawns

Ingredients 

  • 25 medium prawns shelled, deveined, washed and patted dry
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons oil
  • Thecha
  • 20-25 light green chillies
  • 20-25 garlic cloves peeled
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup raw peanuts
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Remove the stems of the green chillies and chop them roughly.
  2. To make thecha, heat 2 tbsps oil in a kadai, add cumin seeds and saute till their colour changes. Add garlic, mix and sauté for 2 minutes. Add peanuts, mix and sauté for 3-4 minutes or till golden brown. Add green chillies, mix well and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add salt and mix well. Take it off the heat.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a mortar and pound with the pestle to a coarse paste.
  4. Take prawns in another bowl, add salt and turmeric powder, mix well and set aside for 10 minutes.
  5. Heat 1½ tbsps oil in the same kadai, add the thecha and sauté for 1 minute.
  6. Add prawns, mix well and saute till the prawns are cooked.
  7. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
