A favourite with the vegetarians, paneer made from milk is quite common, especially paneer recipes are quite popular in the Indian subcontinent. You can make it fresh, chhena – an another version or just use the ones that are readily available in the market to prepare everything from simple snacks, curries, sabzis, mithais, desserts and the likes. An ingredient that can be relished in the raw form too – try serving it as a starter just sprinkled with a little chaat masala, black salt and chilli powder!

Ingredients for Til Paneer Recipe

  • Paneer (Cottage cheese) cut into ¼ inch cubes 250 grams

  • Batter

  • Refined flour (maida) 4 tablespoons

  • Garlic 2 teaspoons

  • Red chilli powder 2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Chaat masala 2 teaspoons

  • Coating

  • Sesame seeds (til) 4 tablespoons

  • Bread crumbs 1/2 cup

  • Semolina (rawa/suji) 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

To make the batter, combine the refined flour, garlic, red chilli powder, salt, chaat masala in a bowl, add sufficient water and whisk to make a smooth batter.

Step 2

Combine the breadcrumbs, sesame seeds and semolina and spread on a plate.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai and dip the cottage cheese cubes into the batter and then coat in the breadcrumbs mixture.

Step 4

Deep-fry in hot oil till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper. Serve hot with chutney of your choice.
