Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Walnut Phirni in Chocolate Cups Recipe

  • Walnuts 1/2 cup

  • Dark chocolate , melted 2 cups

  • Full fat milk 1 litres

  • Rice , soaked for 30 minutes and drained 3 tablespoons

  • Sugar 3/4 cup

  • Green cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Saffron a few strands

  • Chocolate cigars to garnish

  • Fresh mint sprigs to garnish

Method

Step 1

To prepare chocolate cups, fill silicon moulds till ¾ full with melted dark chocolate. Swirl to coat all sides and drain extra chocolate. Keep them in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes or till set.

Step 2

Put walnuts in a grinder jar and grind coarsely.

Step 3

Boil milk in a deep non-stick pan.

Step 4

Transfer walnuts into a bowl. Put drained rice in the same grind jar and grind coarsely.

Step 5

Add both rice and walnuts to the boiling milk and cook, stirring continuously till the rice gets cooked and the mixture thickens. Scrape the sides occasionally and mix well. Stir continuously so that no lumps are formed.

Step 6

Add sugar, green cardamom powder and saffron strands, mix and cook for 2-3 minutes on low heat. Remove from heat and let it cool down to room temperature.

Step 7

Demould chocolate cups from the silicon moulds and place on a serving platter.

Step 8

Fill up each chocolate cups with phirni. Garnish with chocolate cigars and mint sprig. Serve immediately.
