Middle Eastern cuisine comprises of food eaten by the people of the various countries of the Middle East. The cuisine of the region is diverse while having a degree of homogeneity.  Some commonly used ingredients include olives and olive oil, pitas, honey, sesame seeds, dates, sumac, chickpeas, mint and parsley.

Ingredients for Whole Wheat Pita Bread Recipe

  • Multigrain Flour ½ kg + for dusting

  • Dry yeast 25 grams

  • Salt 10 grams

  • Olive oil 25 millilitres

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven at 200°C.

Step 2

Take yeast in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons warm water and mix well. Set aside.

Step 3

Combine flour and salt in another bowl. Add dissolved yeast and 1-1½ cups water and knead into a soft dough.

Step 4

Add oil and knead again. Cover and set aside for 10-15 minutes.

Step 5

Dust a worktop with flour and roll out a portion of dough into a 1 inch thick sheet. Cut out circles using a ring cutter dipped in flour. These are pita breads.

Step 6

Arrange pita breads on a baking tray, cover with a moist cloth and set aside for proving for 10-15 minutes. Place tray in preheated oven and bake for 4 minutes.

Step 7

Remove from heat, cool and use as required.
