Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Apple and Walnut Raita Recipe

  • Apples peeled and cut into small cubes 3-4 medium

  • Walnuts broken + a few for garnish 6 tablespoons

  • Yogurt 2½ cups

  • Sugar 2 tablespoons

  • Red chilli powder ½ teaspoon

  • Roasted cumin powder ½ teaspoon

  • Chaat masala ½ teaspoon

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Heat a non-stick pan. Add apples, sugar and walnuts and mix well and let the mixture caramelize.

Step 2

In the meanwhile, take yogurt in a bowl. Add red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala and salt and mix well.

Step 3

Chill the yogurt in the refrigerator.

Step 4

Once the apples and walnuts are caramelized, transfer them onto a plate and let them cool down to room temperature.

Step 5

Add apple and walnut mixture to the chilled yogurt and mix well.

Step 6

Serve chilled, garnished with walnuts.
