And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Batata Bhajiya - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Potato unpeeled 4 medium

  • Gram flour (besan) 1 1/2 cups

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Carom seeds (ajwain) 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for deep-frying

  • Chaat masala to sprinkle

  • Date and tamarind chutney to serve

  • Green chutney to serve

Method

Step 1

Take gram flour in a large bowl, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, carom seeds, salt and sufficient water and whisk to make a semi-thick batter of coating consistency.

Step 2

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 3

Slice the potatoes, using a slicer, directly into the batter and mix till all of them are well coated.

Step 4

Slide in each slice into the hot oil and deep-fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Transfer them onto a serving plate and sprinkle chaat masala on top. Serve hot with date and tamarind chutney and green chutney.
