Ingredients for Blue Velvet Cake Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 2 cups + for dusting

  • Eggs 2

  • Edible blue colour 2 tablespoons

  • Butter 1 cup + for greasing

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 1? cups

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Buttermilk ½ cup

  • Cream cheese as required

  • Colourful edible sprinklers to sprinkle


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180° C. Grease a rectangle baking tin with some butter and dust with some flour.

Step 2

Cream together butter and castor sugar with an electric beater in a bowl. Add eggs, one by one, and cream till well combined.

Step 3

Sift together flour and baking powder into the mixture and fold in well.

Step 4

Add blue colour and mix well. Add buttermilk and mix till well combined.

Step 5

Pour the batter into the prepared tin till ¾ full. Place the tin in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. Remove from heat, cool and demould.

Step 6

Discard the crust of the cake and cut into squares. Arrange the squares on a serving plate. Pipe out cream cheese on each and sprinkle colourful sprinklers. Serve immediately.
