Ingredients for Buttermilk Onion Rings Recipe

  • Buttermilk 1 cup

  • Onion 4 large

  • Refined flour (maida) 3

  • Baking soda (soda bicarbonate) a pinch

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns to cook

  • Fresh thyme chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh parsley chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Oil for deep-frying

  • Chaat masala for sprinkling


Step 1

Mix refined flour, cornflour, baking soda, salt and crushed peppercorns in a bowl. Add buttermilk and whisk well to form a smooth thick batter. Add thyme and parsley and mix well.

Step 2

Cut onions into one centimeter thick slices and separate into rings.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 4

Dip few onion rings at a time in the batter, slide into hot oil, and deep-fry in hot oil till light golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Sprinkle chaat masala on top and serve hot.
