Ingredients list for Dahiwala Cake

  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 2 1/4 cups Refined Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 5 Eggs
  • 3/4 cup + for greasing Butter
  • 1 cup Castor sugar (caster sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla essence
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon rind grated
  • 1 cup Castor sugar (caster sugar)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda

Method

  1. Preheat the oven at 180°C. Grease a cake tin.Sieve together maida, baking powder and baking soda into a bowl.
  2. Break eggs, separate the whites and yolks.
  3. Whisk together butter and sugar in a bowl, add 1 egg yolk at a time and keep whisking.
  4. Add vanilla essence, lemon rind and yogurt and mix well. Fold maida into this batter.
  5. Whisk egg whites separately and add to the maida mixture.
  6. Pour the batter into the greased cake tin and bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes.
  7. Remove from the mould and cut into wedges. Arrange the wedges on a serving plate and serve.
