Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Mixed Fruit Chaat Recipe

  • Watermelon peeled 1/4 small

  • Apples peeled 1/4 small

  • Pears 2 medium

  • Apples 2 medium

  • Green apples 2 medium

  • Muskmelon 1/4 small

  • Plums deseeded and quartered 2 small

  • Strawberries halved 4-5

  • Star fruit 1 large

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Black salt (kala namak) to taste

  • Fresh red chillies chopped 3

  • Green chillies chopped 2

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Fresh mint leaves chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

  • Lime juice 1 tablespoon

  • Chaat masala 2 teaspoons

Method

Step 1

Cut pineapple, watermelon, pears, apples, green apples, melon into one inch sized pieces. Halve the star fruit and then slice thinly.

Step 2

Take all the cut fruits in a big bowl. Roast cumin seeds nicely. Grind the roasted cumin seeds coarsely with black salt in a mortar with a pestle. Remove into a bowl. 

Step 3

Grind together fresh red chilies, green chillies, coriander leaves and mint leaves in the mortar with a pestle.

Step 4

Add lemon juice, lime juice and grind again. Add the black salt and roasted cumin seed powder and mix well. Add this mixture to the fruit bowl. Add chaat masala.

Step 5

Mix well and serve.
