During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Pineapple Waldrof Recipe

  • Pineapple cut into ½ inch cubes 3 slices

  • Walnut kernels toasted 1/2 cup

  • Iceberg lettuce hand torn 1 medium bunch

  • Celery 1/2 inch pieces 1 stalk

  • Mayonnaise 3 tablespoons

  • Cream 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Black peppercorns crushed 1/2 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Roughly break the walnuts into smaller pieces. Using a rolling pin crush a few walnuts to a coarse powder. In a mixing bowl, mix in pineapple, lettuce leaves, celery and walnut pieces.

Step 2

Add mayonnaise and cream. Add salt and freshly crushed pepper. Lightly toss the salad so that the dressing evenly coats the pineapple, walnut and lettuce leaves.

Step 3

Garnish it with coarse walnut powder and serve cold.
