Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Prawn Green Masala Recipe

  • Prawns peeled and deveined 1/2 kilogram

  • Coriander for garnish 1 bunch

  • Fresh mint leaves 1/2 bunch

  • Garlic 6 cloves

  • Green chilli 3

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onion chopped 2 medium

  • Cinnamon 1/2 inch stick

  • Cloves 4-5

  • Black peppercorns 10-12

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Tomato chopped 2 medium

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Marinate the prawns with lemon juice and set aside for twenty minutes.

Step 2

Grind together mint leaves, coriander leaves, garlic and green chillies with water to a fine paste.

Step 3

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add onions, cinnamon, cloves and black peppercorns and saute till the onions turn brown in color.

Step 4

Add turmeric powder and tomatoes and saute till the tomatoes get cooked.

Step 5

Add prawns and salt and mix well and cook further for two minutes.

Step 6

Add the mint and coriander paste and cook till the prawns gets cooked.

Step 7

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
