Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Shakarkandi Chaat - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Medium sweet potatoes (shakarkand) peeled and cut into cubes 2

  • Large potato peeled and cut into cubes 1

  • Oil to deep fry

  • Sweet date-tamarind chutney 1 tablespoon

  • Green chutney 1 tablespoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Chaat masala 1 teaspoon

  • Roasted cumin powder 1 teaspoon

  • Green chillies finely chopped 1-2

  • Lemon juice 1 teaspoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped 1 tablespo for garnish

  • Fresh pomegranate pearls for garnish

  • Ginger strips for garnish

Method

Step 1

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, slide in the potato cubes and deep-fry till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 2

Deep-fry sweet potato cubes in the same oil till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 3

Put fried potatoes and sweet potato cubes in a bowl. Add date-tamarind chutney, green chutney and mix. Add chilli powder, chaat masala, cumin powder, green chillies, lemon juice and coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 4

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves, pomegranate pearls and ginger strips and serve immediately.
