Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Strawberry Shikanji Recipe

  • Strawberries sliced 2-3

  • Strawberries for garnishing

  • Lemon juice 4-5 tablespoons

  • Sugar 4 tablespoons

  • Ginger juice 2 tablespoons

  • Black salt (kala namak) 1 teaspoon

  • Roasted cumin powder 1 teaspoon

  • Ice cubes as required

  • Khus syrup (optional) 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

Heat sugar in a non-stick pan. Add 1 cup water and bring to a boil and cook till sugar dissolves. Simmer for 1 minute, take off the heat and let it cool.

Step 2

Pour sugar syrup, lemon juice and ginger juice into a jar. Add 2 cups water and mix well.

Step 3

Add black salt, cumin powder and mix well. Add ice cubes.

Step 4

Add sliced strawberries, khus syrup and mix well.

Step 5

Pour into individual glasses and serve chilled garnished with the strawberries.
