Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Tawa Aloo Sandwich Recipe

  • Large potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 3

  • White bread slices 8

  • Small onion chopped 1

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 3 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Green chillies chopped 2

  • Chaat masla 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Schezwan sauce 1 tablespoon

  • Butter as required

  • Green chutney to serve

  • Tomato ketchup to serve


Step 1

Take mashed potatoes in a bowl, add onion, coriander leaves, salt, green chillies, chaat masala powder, red chilli powder and Schezwan sauce and mix well.

Step 2

Apply butter on 4 slices of bread, place some potato stuffing on each of them and spread evenly. Place cheese slices on top of potato mixture.

Step 3

Place the remaining slices of bread over the cheese slices, apply butter on top of each sandwich.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick tawa, place the prepared sandwiches with the buttered side facing the tawa, apply butter on top and cook the sandwiches, turning sides till evenly golden brown on both sides.

Step 5

Cut the sandwiches in half diagonally, arrange them on serving platter and serve hot with green chutney and tomato ketchup.
