Ever imagined what life would be without some meetha? The gulab jamuns, barfis, pedas, laddoos, modaks, halwas…you can say let the sugar substitutes rule but not everything is possible with substitutes! One of oldest flavourings and condiments used by mankind, this ingredient is an instant provider of energy. Also available in various types, sugar is either derived from sugarcane or beetroot.

Ingredients for Thai Style Creme Caramel Recipe

  • Palm sugar 1 cup

  • Eggs 4

  • Castor sugar 1/4 cup

  • Coconut milk 1 cup

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 180° C.

Step 2

Heat palm sugar in a non-stick pan. Add ¼ cup water, mix well and cook till the mixture thickens.

Step 3

Break eggs into a bowl, add castor sugar and whisk well. Add coconut milk, vanilla essence and whisk again.

Step 4

Pour cooked palm sugar into 4 ramekin moulds and pour coconut milk mixture into them. Place the ramekin moulds on a baking tray, pour 2 cups water on the tray, place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 50-55 minutes.

Step 5

Remove the crème caramel from ramekin moulds, arrange on a serving plate and serve immediately.
