Ingredients list for Varan
- 1 cup Split pigeon pea (toor dal/arhar dal) soaked for 1 hour
- ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon Asafoetida
- to taste Salt
- ¼ teaspoon Sugar
Method
- Pressure cook the pigeon peas with turmeric powder, asafoetida and 3 cups water till 4 whistles are given out.
- Open the lid of the cooker once the pressure is completely released.
- Mash the peas with a mathni. Add salt and sugar and mix well. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
