Vatana Nu Leelu Shaak

Ingredients   

  • 1½ cups shelled green peas 
  • 1 inch ginger piece
  • 2 green chillies, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • ¼ teaspoon asafoetida 
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala powder

Method 

  1. Grind ginger and green chillies to a fine paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add asafoetida. Immediately add mustard seeds and stir-fry till they splutter. Add ginger-green chilli paste and shelled green peas. Sauté for two minutes, stirring continuously. 
  3. Add coriander powder, cumin powder and red chilli powder. Cook on medium heat for one minute, stirring continuously.
  4. Stir in two cups of water and bring it to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for ten to fifteen minutes, stirring occasionally, or till green peas are completely cooked. 
  5. Stir in salt and garam masala powder and serve hot.
