Dahi Wale Aloo

A simple potato curry mixed with yogurt and served. Simple potato preparation tempered and cooked with Indian spices. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Dahi Wale Aloo

Ingredients 

  • 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 4-5 tablespoons yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1-2 green chillies, broken into small pieces
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaves 
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Fresh coriander sprigs for garnish

Method

  1. Take potato cubes in a bowl, add salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non-stick pan, add 1 tsp cumin seeds and saute till their colour changes. Add green chillies and asafoetida and mix well.
  3. Add potatoes and mix well. Add sugar and coriander leaves and mix well. Add 1 cup water and a pinch of salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add lemon juice, and mix well. Take the pan off the heat and transfer into a bowl. Add yogurt and mix well.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve.
