Dahiwale Amrud

Ingredients 

  • 4 medium guavas
  • 3/4 cup yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1/3 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mango powder (amchur)
  • 4 tablespoons ghee
  • 4 green chillies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds (saunf)
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/3 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Method

  1. Deseed and cut guavas into small pieces. Whisk yogurt with the powdered spices except garam masala powder.
  2. Heat ghee, add green chillies, cumin seeds, fennel seeds followed by asafoetida and stir.
  3. Add whisked yogurt, tomatoes, salt and stir for a while. Add three fourth cup of water and let it boil. Add guava and let the gravy boil. Lower heat, cover and cook stirring occasionally.
  4. When guavas are cooked, add garam masala powder and cook for a further three to four minutes.
  5. Sprinkle lemon juice and sugar and stir. Serve hot.
