Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Dates and Anjeer Modak Recipe

  • Dates chopped 1 cup

  • Dried figs chopped 3/4 cup

  • Pistachios 2 tablespoons

  • Raisins 2 tablespoons

  • Almonds 1/4 cup

  • Dried coconut ( khopra) grated 2 tablespoons

  • Poppy seeds (khuskhus/posto) 2 tablespoons

  • Green cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Put pistachios, raisins and almonds in a food processor and process to a coarse powder. Add dried coconut, poppy seeds and green cardamom powder and process to a coarse paste.

Step 2

Transfer the coarse paste into a large bowl and mix. Take a portion of the mixture and stuff into a modak mould, gently press and demould. *

Step 3

Arrange the dates and anjeer modaks on a serving plate and serve.
