You should always stack your fridge with at least a dozen of them. Why? Handiest food to have around! Kids are hungry? Make some egg sandwiches. Guests come in, make an egg curry or egg biryani. You are hungry? Poach an egg and have it topped with stir fried veggies – perfect protein source for the body! Check the freshness – keep a raw egg in a bowl of water. Fresh eggs will stay at the bottom while stale eggs stand on end or float.

Ingredients for How to Poach Eggs Recipe

  • Eggs 4

  • Salt to taste

  • Vinegar 2 teaspoons

  • English muffins 4

  • Black peppercorns to taste

  • Iceberg lettuce leaves to serve

  • Red cherry tomatoes halved and roasted to serve

Method

Step 1

For each egg, heat sufficient water in a pan, add salt and ½ tsp vinegar and let the water come to a boil.

Step 2

Break one egg in a bowl. Stir the boiling water mixture, drop in the egg and poach for 3 minutes.

Step 3

Meanwhile halve the English muffins and place them on separate serving plates. Place the poached egg on the base half of a muffin, sprinkle some salt and crushed peppercorns on top. Similarly cook the remaining 3 eggs.

Step 4

Serve with few iceberg lettuce leaves and roasted cherry tomato halves.
