Break one egg in a bowl. Stir the boiling water mixture, drop in the egg and poach for 3 minutes. Meanwhile halve the English muffins and place them on separate serving plates. Place the poached egg on the base half of a muffin, sprinkle some salt and crushed peppercorns on top. Similarly cook the remaining 3 eggs.
