Ingredients

  • 1 cup black-eyed beans (lobiya), soaked overnight
  • ½ cup split Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked
  • Oil to deep fry
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 tablespoon chopped ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • ¼ teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1 tablespoon chana masala
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon green chilli sauce
  • 2 tablespoons gram flour (besan)
  • 1 spring onion flower

Method

  1. Drain and put black eyed beans in a chopper. Drain and add split gram and crush.
  2. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  3. Transfer the crushed mixture into a bowl. Add onions, ginger, carom seeds, asafoetida, chana masala, baking soda, salt, green chilli sauce and gram flour and mix well.
  4. Divide into small balls, press lightly, slide into hot oil and deep-fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper. 
  5. Arrange them on a serving platter, garnish with spring onion flower and serve hot.
