Mandeli Fry

Ingredients 

  • 24-28 Mandeli fish
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Oil for deep-frying 
  •  ¼ cup cornflour/cornstarch
  • ¾ cup rice flour
  • ½ cup semolina (suji)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Green chutney to serve
  • Onion rings to serve
  • Lemon wedges to serve

Method

  1. Remove the head of each mandeli fish, clean the gut and keep them in a bowl
  2. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste and lemon juice and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  4. Take cornflour, rice flour, semolina, salt and coriander leaves on a plate and mix well. Roll the fish in this mixture slide into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  5. Arrange them on a serving platter and serve hot with green chutney, onion rings and lemon wedges.
