Ingredients list for Murgh aur Masoor ki Dal - Sk Khazana

  • 750 grams Chicken cut into 2 inch pieces on the bone
  • 1 cup Whole masoor dal soaked for 1 hour and boiled with salt and turmeri
  • 2 Onions medium, sliced
  • 2-3 tablespoons Yogurt
  • 8-10 Garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 inch Ginger crushed
  • 3 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 4 Light green chillies slit
  • 2 tablespo for garnish Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 inch+ for garnish Ginger cut into thin strips
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Desi ghee
  • Quartered onions to serve
  • Lemon wedges to serve

Method

  1. Heat a deep non-stick pan on medium heat, add chicken, onions, yogurt, garlic and ginger. Increase heat to high. Add 1½ tbsps oil, cumin seeds, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin powder and mix well. .
  2. Add ½ cup water, 3 green chillies and 1½ tbsps oil sauté on high heat for 4-5 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat, cover the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes or till the chicken is almost done. Add boiled whole maoor dal and mix well.
  4. Add coriander leaves, ginger strips and desi ghee. Add about ½ - ¾ cup water to adjust the consistency, mix well. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander, remaining green chillies and ginger strips and serve hot with chapattis or phulkas or steamed rice.
