In Japanese cuisine consists of food is cooked in a specific way based on the culture and tradition of Japan. The traditional cuisine of Japan comprises of rice with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. The side dishes often consist of fish, pickled vegetables and vegetables cooked in broth. Fish is common in the traditional cuisine. It is often grilled, but it may also be served raw or dipped in a light batter and deep-fried.
Japanese cuisine has now become popular throughout the world. As of 2011, Japan has overtaken France in number of Michelin starred restaurants and has maintained the title ever since.

Ingredients for Prawn Tempura Recipe

  • Prawns shelled, deveined with tails intact 12-16

  • Refined flour 1 cup + for dusting

  • Cornflour 1/4 cup

  • Rice flour 1/2 cup

  • Baking soda 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to deep fry

Method

Step 1

Take refined flour in a bowl, add cornflour, rice flour, baking powder and salt, mix lightly. Add ¼ cup cold water and mix well to form a thin and lump free batter.

Step 2

Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan. Dip the prawns in the tempura batter till they are evenly coated, slide into hot oil and deep-fry till light golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 3

Arrange them on a serving platter and serve hot with sweet chilli sauce.
