Ingredients list for Saat Dhaan Ki Khichdi

  • 3/4 cup Rice soaked
  • 2 tablespoons Green Chana
  • 2 tablespoons Whole green grams (sabut moong) soaked
  • 2 tablespoons Toovar dana
  • 2 tablespoons Split pigeon pea (toor dal/arhar dal) soaked
  • 2 tablespoons Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal) soaked
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh broad bean seeds (leelva)
  • 4 tablespoons Pure ghee
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 3-4 Cloves
  • 5-6 Black peppercorns
  • 1 inch stick Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 medium Onions thinly sliced
  • 2 Green chillies broken
  • to taste Salt

Method

  1. Heat pure ghee in a pan. Add asafoetida, cloves, black peppercorns, cinnamon, cumin seeds, sliced onions and sauté. Add green chillies and continue to sauté for two to three minutes.
  2. Add drained hara chana, sabut moong, toovar dana, toovar dal, dhuli moong dal, papdi dana and sauté. Add drained rice, salt and five cups of water.
  3. When it comes to a boil, cover, reduce heat and cook till done, stirring occasionally. Serve hot.
