Tamatar Khatta

Ingredients 

  • 15 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 whole dry red chillies, stemmed
  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 2-3 curry leaves
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 7 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds, dry red chillies, green cardamoms, curry leaves and onions and saute for a minute.
  2. Add salt, sugar and turmeric powder and saute for two to three minutes.
  3. Add tomatoes and cover and cook for ten to fifteen minutes or till the tomatoes get cooked and the gravy thickens.
  4. Serve hot.
