Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Vratwale Aloo Recipe

  • Potatoes peeled 4-5 medium

  • Pure ghee 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Green chilli paste 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Raw peanuts 1/4 cup

  • Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste

  • Lemon juice 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Heat a pressure cooker. Cut the potatoes into small cubes. Pour the ghee in the cooker and add cumin seeds.

Step 2

Add potatoes and mix well. Add green chilli paste, red chilli powder, peanuts and mix well and sauté for 1-2 minutes.

Step 3

Add 2 cups water, rock salt and lemon juice and mix. Cover the cooker and cook under pressure till 2-3 whistles are given out.

Step 4

Open the lid when the pressure reduces. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with kootoo ke aate ki puri.
